First of all, a big hello from Greece Mr Carpenter.
1. What are you occupied with, at this period of your life?
Are there any plans for a new movie release in the future?
I'm 65 years old now, so I've slowed down a bit. I
have a few projects in development, but nothing to announce.
2. On a recent conversation between us on facebook, i learned -and to
tell you the truth i was a bit shocked- that u are a good and devoted PS3 and XBOX360 Gamer-Player…Any game that stands out
for you at the time? Also…The classic debate question : PS4 vs XBOXone?
My son got me into video games. I started with Sonic
the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis. Right now I'm playing thru Borderlands 2 for the
5th or so time. I love shooters, horror survival, almost anything. I'm looking
forward to Assassins creed Black flag, the new Battlefield and the new Call of
duty. I don't know which new system will be best. I'm just pissed off that they
don't play old games.
3. As technology advances we discover and invent new ways to introduce
those achievements into our life. It is
used often in movies as well. In your opinion are actors as a group going to go
extinct? Are they all going to be replaced with the "cheaper"
solution of CGI?
As much as I'd like to think about it, actors will never become extinct.
4. "They live"…In my humble opinion, a so prophetic and apocalyptic
film,(as i also find prophetic more John Carpenter films, such as "Escape
from New York/Los Angeles" and "The Thing")…how do you see and
how do you feel about "They live" 15 years after it's release?
I'm very proud of “They live”. The 80's never ended.
Reaganomics is still with us. Thatcherism is alive. God help us.
5. You composed the original theme for "Halloween" that ended
up being one of the classics. How do you feel about producers
"borrowing" this theme, remixing or recomposing it? Also i would like
to have your opinion on the New Age Horror Film Scores.
Mixed. I'm flattered and pissed off. It's copyright
infringement and professionals should know better. In the arts, infringement is
another word for theft. There aren't too many synthesized scores these days.
It's all orchestral all the time. But there are many great modern scores.
Thanks a lot for your
time Mr. Carpenter.
